KIDS popped over to plant flowers at a Gwynedd museum in a bid to help its funds blossom.

Pupils of Ysgol Llanystumdwy planted 200 daffodil bulbs on land belonging to the Lloyd George Museum as part of a community project.

The children planted the flowers with Aled Hughes, from BBC Radio Cymru, and also took part in his Children in Need campaign to collect 10,000 ‘pawen lawen’ or high fives.

The projects aims to secure extra ways of generating income to help fund the museum.

The museum land is suitable to grow fruits, vegetables and flowers, which will then be sold in a ‘pop up’ shop.

The scheme will allow the museum to experiment with ways to generate extra income, whilst keeping in with the wishes of Lloyd George, who was keen on gardening, agriculture and bee keeping.

Councillor Craig ab Iago, Gwynedd Council cabinet Mmmber who leads on heritage, said: “I would like to thank the Bryncir Garden Centre, who provided 300 daffodil bulbs for the project, Ysgol Llanystumdwy, Mancoed VM and everybody else who co-operated to make this new and exciting community project possible.

“The children are looking forward to picking the daffodil flowers for spring 2019, and I hope the venture goes from strength to strength.”

The next ‘pop up’ will be on Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30, 2019.
