THE ground-breaking musical play “Oh What a Lovely War” will be staged by the members of the Mid Powys Youth Theatre at the Wyeside Arts Centre in Builth Wells, opening next Thursday night, November 8.

Joan Littlewood’s poignant and funny play shook Britain and transformed British theatre forever when it was first produced.

Chosen by the Youth Theatre to mark the centenary of the First World War. this is a playful re-imaging showing how the young people of today respond to a play based on real events and accounts running up to and during the war to end al wars.

There will be further performances at 7.30m on Friday, and at 2pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, November 10, on the eve of Remembrance Sunday.

“There has never been a better time to consider the causes and impact of war and how this particular was has shaped society today.

“We have worked intensively for two months to pull this performance together with the show rigorously researched by the young people.

“We will be learning a huge amount as a company and having a lot of fun along the way,” said Kama Roberts who is directing the show with Rosie McConnell.

Rosie is also the musical director with music of the time and many trench songs played live by the company.
