Ysgol Eirias have, for a second year in a row, swept the awards at the Welsh School's Skiing Championships.

Eirias retained the title of Welsh schools skiing champions while also having a number of individuals top their age groups.

Ben Constantine came first in the under 16 boy's division, Alex Davies was second in the under 18 boys and Ciaran Bate was first in the U21 boys category.

They have all now qualified for the British Schools Championships, in Edinburgh, on November 18.

After winning the title last year, they went to Pontypool for the British Schools Championships where they came 3rd, and last years Captain, Joe Constantine was 2nd placed boy overall.

In the last 18 months as well as two Welsh Schools Titles, two North Wales schools titles and a third place in the British Schools Championships, the team have won the ISA National Schools Indoor Championships at Hemel Hempstead and the National Schools Indoor Championships at Chill Factore, Manchester.

During this period, both Joe Constantine and Alex Davies have been selected for the Welsh National Ski Team, and Ben Constantine for the Welsh National Ski Academy.

Alex is the current Welsh Alpine Giant Slalom Champion, as well as the overall Welsh Indoor Champion whilst Ben Constantine is the current Welsh Alpine Slalom Champion, and achieved second place at the Welsh Outdoor Championships.

This makes the school team, one of the most successful junior sports team in the whole of North Wales, during the last 18 months.

Chief executive of Snowsport Wales, Robin Kellen, said: “ A wonderful achievement by the boys from Ysgol Eirias to retain their Welsh Title at the Welsh Schools Ski Championships, and it was also fantastic for Welsh skiing to watch the team achieve third place at the British Schools Championships last year.”

Ysgol Eirias headteacher, Sarah Sutton, said: "I am extremely proud of all the skiers achievements in winning medals in individuals categories, as well as the boys winning the Welsh Championship.”

While Louise Kerfoot Robson, deputy headteacher, said: “Its incredible that the boys have retained their Welsh Boys Ski Championships for another year.

"They have worked and trained really hard for this and all skied fantastically.”
