Two real life trees have been planted in the foyer of the new Conwy council offices in Colwyn Bay.

More than 750 Conwy County Borough Council (CCBC) employees are set to move into their new £38.5 million offices in the middle of next month and are set to be greeted by two large Ficus Nitida trees that have been erected in the middle of the the foyer.

The two trees, which were provided as part of the development by the funder, are specifically for internal environments and will grow to be about 5 metres tall.

Bleddyn Evans, CCBC county valuer & asset manager, said: "They will be maintained, by our facilities management team who will be looking after the building.

"There won't be any issues with them being inside as they are specifically for internal environments."

Work has all but finished on the Coed Pella offices, located on the corner of Conway and Coed Pella Roads, with developers putting the final touches on the building before staff begin moving in next month.

The building will then be open to the public by mid-November.

Colwyn Bay mayor, Stephen Williams, was on hand for the burying of tow time capsules on the Coed Pella office premises last week and said the building looked "amazing".

Mr Williams said: "It looks amazing and is so much larger on the inside than it looks from the outside.

"The layout, the furniture and the thought process that has gone into the building is all very modern."

The mayor added the opening of these new offices was going to have a positive effect on Colwyn Bay.

He said: "It is great for the town. It is going to be a huge success for businesses in he town because for example there are no cafe facilites here in the new building so they have to go into Colwyn Bay.

"We have already seen a number of new businesses pop up and the building hasn't even opened yet."

The new four-storey office building will house key frontline services, including social services, housing, regulatory services and community development services.

Employees got their first look inside the building at the beginning of September and said they were excited to move in.
