Could this be Mid Wales’ largest pumpkin?
Tom Rowlands thinks he’s grown a record-breaking pumpkin at his home in Llanidloes.
The organically-grown pumpkin weighs in at an incredible 305kg (673lbs).
He believes it was all down to the heat this summer that helped his Atlantic Giant Strain seed grow into a showstopping pumpkin, which took three months to grow from seed to finish.
“It’s all a bit of fun,” said Tom.
“I doubt I’d get a bigger one, perhaps I was a bit lucky this year. If it’s not a record for Mid Wales, then I’d be surprised,” he added.
Lots of space, organic manure, plenty of water, and a bit of TLC is the secret to success, says Tom, and he’s prepared to provide seeds for others to try for free.
He’s open to suggestions as to where the pumpkin might go, bearing in mind its size and weight will need suitable transport.
Tom said: “It’s looking a bit sad outside and there’s not a lot I can do with it.”
