Labour has got behind the campaign to save a firefighting vehicle at Llandrindod Wells fire station by creating an online petition.

Aerial Ladder Platforms are ladders which are mechanically operated and have a platform at the end for firefighters to stand on to reach higher heights.

The Change.org petition to save Llandrindod Well’s ALP, the last one in Powys, currently has over 900 signatures.

The petition says: “Driven by austerity cuts imposed by the UK Government, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MWWFRS) are planning to dispense with the Llandrindod Wells ALP. This important equipment saves lives and some firefighters say its loss will leave a “black spot” throughout Mid Wales.

“In July alone our ALP was used both in Rhayader - at the Dolgerddon Hall fire - and at the Tŷ Belgrave House Hotel fire in Aberystwyth. It’s also essential for tackling fires in buildings over four storeys high. Mid Wales has many such buildings, some residential.

“Members of the Labour Party in the “black spot” areas are joining forces with the Fire Brigades Union to call on MWWFRS to put the safety of our citizens before budget concerns and SAVE OUR ALP!”

Another online petition to save the ALP, which has 170 signatures, was set up by Kirsty Williams AM back in August.
