Glyn Davies MP has said that he is "horrified" by the proposed closure of Welshpool Library and the "serious downgrading" of the service.

In the next charity coffee morning the MP for Montgomeryshire is hosting will take place at the Welshpool Corn Exchange under the banner 'We Love Our Libraries' on Friday, November 2.

He said: "I’m always wary of leading criticism of elected bodies concerning responsibilities that they are struggling to cope with.

"But I am horrified by proposed closure of the Welshpool Library, and serious downgrading of the service.

"I could accept opening a library on the main street or maybe as part of one of the new schools."

Any profits from the coffee morning will go to the Severn Hospice.

Powys County Council are proposing Welshpool Library merges with the Powysland Museum on its site along the canal. A consultation is currently taking place and will end on Friday, November 22.
