ABERGELE has joined the ranks of a fast growing pub franchise.

Denbigh's Dovecote brewery has opened the Hoptimist pub at the old Yorkshire Building Society on the High Street.

Working with Llanarmon-yn-Ial brewery Cwrw Ial, this latest pub is the breweries' third this year following on from the Dove at Rhyl and the Dove at Prestatyn earlier this year.

The 13 tap micropub will not only function as a 'tap' for both breweries, but will also offer a range of cask and keg ale as well as craft cider from around the country.

Sue Green, of Dovecote Brewery said: "When we opened in Rhyl, we had a lot of beer tourists from Abergele coming in regularly, describing the town as barren, a bit of desert for craft ale.

"The old building society was something of a community hub when it first opened, so we wanted to breathe new life into it and quickly restore it to its former glory. It fits in to our overall vision of championing small brewers craft and establish great pubs throughout the area."

The pub, which opened on Friday, October 12, will be followed in about four weeks by a further branch in Rhuddlan and plans for a fifth opening towards the end of the year in Ruthin.

Ms Green added: "So far people have responded really well, without a doubt some of loveliest customers. The first weekend was brilliant we had a really positive feedback from everyone and we already have already established a lovely atmosphere.

"While we are opening pubs in quick succession, The Hoptimist stays true to our roots of reintroducing a whole new generation of young drinkers to real quality and our passion for making something special in good locations throughout North Wales."
