Police were advising people to steer clear of the centre of Bishops Castle following a diesel spillage on Tuesday, October 16.

Fire and Police services were called to assist at the scene of a road traffic collision which caused a fuel leak. The leak affected Salop Street and Station Street in the town while the fire service cleaned up the spillage.

A statement from South Shropshire's neighbourhood police team said:

"Bishops castle SNT are currently dealing with a large diesel spillage in bishops castle town centre. Salop street is currently closed. Please avoid this area. Station street is also affected."

Shropshire Council said diversions had been requested.

A statement from Shropshire Fire and Rescue said:

"At 13:02 on Tuesday, 16 October, 2018, SFRS Fire Control received a call reporting that a Road Traffic Collision had taken place.

1 fire appliance was mobilised from Bishops Castle.

Request to deal with fuel spillage following road traffic collision"
