Six neighbours in Ellesmere had cause for celebration after learning they had won £30,000 each thanks to playing People’s Postcode Lottery.

The Canal Way winners landed the cash when their postcode was announced as a Street Prize winner.

Mark Davies, 64, was one of the lucky people picking up the prize.

He said: “I’m very pleased indeed. This couldn’t have come at a better time as I could really be doing with changing my current vehicle, so that’s at the top of my wish list. The house will also be getting a makeover thanks to the win. The living room is long overdue a new three-piece-suite so that’s on the cards too.”

Mark was joined by his wife June as he received the cheque and she added: “I’d almost given up checking as I never thought we’d win but now we have it’s come as quite the shock. I couldn’t be more thrilled. We’ll celebrate with a couple of days away somewhere nice with our twin sons, but don’t ask me where we’ll be going – we’ll need to think about that once what’s happened has started to sink in!”

The other winners weren’t available to collect their prize, but the cash will be paid into their bank account.

Beechtree Community Centre is one of many charities close to the winners that players have helped to support. In 2017, the organisation was awarded £5,000 to provide local residents with the opportunity to participate in new age kurling and badminton, helping to encourage social interaction, whilst also improving health and well-being.
