Syrian refugees living in Newtown played a friendly match with Llanidloes Town AFC youth members at a football fun day.

The aim of the game was to get to know each other better at the football festival for Syrian families at Victoria Avenue, the home of Llanidloes Town Football Club.

More than 60 people turned out to support the event on Sunday, September 2.

The Refugees Support Group has thanked the football club’s coaches and players for their “enthusiastic support”.

Lisa Stead, organiser, said in a message on Facebook: “A MASSIVE thank you to all who came along to the football fest. Our guests from Newtown had a great time. It was fantastic to see such a turnout from Llanidloes – 40 players and 20 supporters – incredible. It was great to have such support.

“Thanks to Llani FC for giving, time, resources and club for the event. Thanks to Brenin Adventures for supplying transport to and from Newtown,” she added.
