Organisers of Llanfair Caereinion’s annual carnival have appealed for volunteers after the annual meeting of the carnival committee was abandoned last week.

Organisers say the popular town event may not run in 2019 after a number of resignations from the committee and a lack of numbers coming forward to help, which has left them short of manpower to organise the parade.

And they have appealed for fresh blood in an attempt to save the event.

“We need a chair, secretary and treasurer and volunteers to help with the jobs leading up to carnival day and after, such as putting up bunting and setting up the marquees, “ said committee member and former chair Sam Webster.

“People think it’s going to be a lot of meetings and perhaps they don’t want to commit to that which is understandable, but that’s not the case at all, it’s probably only around three or four per year, and it’s not necessarily the case that everyone needs to come to every meeting as long as they’re able to help with some of the hands on tasks for the carnival.

“We hope to go forward next year but obviously if we haven’t got the manpower then it can’t happen – I’d urge anyone who can help to come down to Tuesday’s meeting and let us know that you can help!” she added.

A re-arranged meeting will now take place in the upstairs room at The Black Lion, Llanfair Caereinion, on Tuesday, October 2, at 8pm.
