The bond between a young handler and his dog is set to be put to the test this weekend, as 12-year-old Elgan Jarman will make his debut representing Wales.
He is to take part in the annual ‘One Man and His Dog’ sheepdog trials on Sunday in Llansteffan, Carmarthenshire.
Elgan, who is a pupil as Ysgol bro Hyddgen in Machynlleth, and faithful collie Peg have made it into the finals of the competition, and will face off against the best shepherds and shepherdesses from England, Scotland and Ireland in the competition.
However Elgan will not be the youngest handler in the competition, with 11-year-old Murray Common representing the Scotland team, also in the 11-13 category.
The final, hosted by Matt Baker, will be shown on a special edition of ‘Countryfile’ on BBC1 on Sunday, September 23.
