A Poundstretcher store is set to open in Llandrindod Wells as the chain of discount stores has advertised for positions online.

On the website Totaljobs there are jobs advertised for a store manager, deputy store manager and general sales assistant.

People have speculated that the store will be located where The Co-operative Food used to be, just off Middleton Street. The Co-op closed its doors in May 2016, resulting in the loss of nearly 30 jobs.

Jon Williams, mayor and chairman of Llandrindod Town Council, said: "I've heard that they're supposed to be opening in town, but I've heard nothing official. There's nothing to say it's anything concrete.

"I had heard on the grape vine that someone has seen someone go and measure up."

Cllr Williams said that six months before Greggs opened in Llandrindod Wells, jobs were advertised too, so the same thing could be happening with Poundstretcher.

Cllr Williams said: "It would be a great benefit for Llandrindod. That building has been empty for a long time and I'm always getting loads of complaints about the rubbish. The quicker the better."

Poundstretcher is yet to announce any official details about the store opening.
