A WOMAN was amazed she was not seriously injured after a motorcycle crash.

Alice May Jones, 26, was thrown off her Honda VFR 750 on the A41 while travelling to an event at Lyn’s Raven Cafe in Whitchurch.

She told how her back wheel lost traction and fishtailed just after a roundabout - possibly because of some oil or fuel on the road - before she was thrown off the bike, landing face first and sliding down the tarmac.

She said: “I was just in total shock. At first I didn’t remember any of it as I had knocked myself out. I just came to lying face down on the tarmac with people all around me.

“I burst into tears, and just I remember repeating to my partner ‘Im fine, I’m just in shock and nothing hurts I just want to get up’, but obviously they (paramedics) didn’t want to move me. Not long after I was allowed to sit up, take my helmet off and then they led me back down and told me not to move my head at all just in case.”

Miss Jones was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH) but texts, x-rays and scans came back “absolutely fine”.

“There’s not a mark on me. I have a slightly sore neck, that’s it,” she added

The road was closed while police and paramedics were at the scene, and Miss Jones thanked the emergency services as well as motorists who came to her aid.

Her classic 1980s bike is a write-off after the crash on Sunday, July 29, but Miss Jones - of Wallasey on Merseyside - told the Herald: “To be honest I’m not as bothered as I thought I would be. I’m just glad I’m okay because it could have been a lot worse.”

In a Facebook post, said that the accident proved that motorcyclists cannot skimp on protective clothing - and warned not to buy cheap gear online. She told the Herald: “ Had I had a cheap helmet, I would probably have died as I landed face first.

“Had I had cheap or no protective clothing I would have been in theatre having the gravel removed from my body and probably skin grafts, yet I haven’t even got a bruise!’
