Former Chester midfielder Liam Davies has joined National League North rivals Southport.
The 22-year-old winger, brother of Everton star Tom Davies, has been training with the Sandgrounders and impressed by scoring in a 3-0 away win at Widnes.
Southport’s assistant manager is former Chester boss Jon McCarthy, who is understood to have been instrumental in bringing Davies to Haig Avenue, the club now managed by Liam Watson.
However, Davies looks set to depart out on-loan to Marine FC with the Evo-Stik outfit confirming the midfielder is set to sign subject to paperwork being processed.
Davies joined Chester in March 2017 and made six National League appearances, scoring once.
He was released by the Blues in March of this year after struggling to make any impact during a loan spell at Leek Town.
Davies told Southport’s official website: "The opportunity to be a part of this team and rebuild the club to where it belongs is such a good opportunity. The club want to promote young players and I’m looking forward to be given the chance to put the shirt on and play in front of the fans."
