Organisers of Newbridge-On-Wye’s annual carnival are planning for another bumper weekend as the village gets ready for the annual event on Saturday, June 30.

With a spell of sensational summer sun forecast, the carnival’s committee is hoping for a large turnout with their programme now finalised for the weekend.

The event gets underway on Newbridge Village Green at midday, with judging for numerous categories including best fancy dress, best group, best decorated pushchair, wheelchair or bicycle as well as the popular best float category taking place at 1pm, before the procession makes its way through the town at 2pm.

A host of free entertainment, art actions, craft stalls and local organisations will all be in attendance with highlights on the green set to include the Wings of Wales Falconry display, the Wye Valley Axemen as well as children’s entertainers, a bouncy castle a carousel and more.

Play Radnor will also be in attendance organising children’s workshops during the day.

This year’s Carnival Queen will be Maud Chance, assisted by Princesses Edie Allpress and Maisie Samuel, while the Nigel Parkinson Memorial Trophy for Best Float has also kindly been donated by his family for this year.

“Nigel Parkinson loved the carnival, and was so happy it came back after several years of not being held,” said a spokesman for the event.

“Newbridge Carnival Committee would like to thank Newbridge Football Club, and Pip Samuel for all their help over the years. This thanks includes the use of the football grounds and clubhouse to hold the Carnival since it started up again over five years ago. “
