CHILDREN will be able to give their dads a Father's Day treat by taking them for a ride on the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway, while not spending too much of their pocket money.

This Sunday, June 17, fathers can travel on the popular steam railway with a child’s return ticket of £4.50.

It doesn’t matter how old the dads are – if a grandfather, father and child all ride together they will need only three £4.50 tickets.

And any great-grandfathers that visit on the day will get a ticket for free, including children under three years old.

This Sunday there are two return trips from Welshpool Raven Square, at 11.15am and 2.05pm, and three from Llanfair Caereinion at 10am, 1pm and 3.30pm.

A spokesperson said: “We expect the day to be busy, so dads wanting to take advantage of the offer are advised to guarantee their space by booking online at, where the child’s ticket is only £4. Dads should just book themselves a child’s ticket.”

Over in Bettws Cedewain, the local Brownies are hosting a Fun Dog Show this Sunday to raise money for Guide Dogs for the Blind charity.

There is a special Father's Day competition for Dads and their canine companions and entry is only £2 to enter all the categories.

The event takes place at Bettws Cedewain Village Hall from 1.30pm where there will also be face painting, a raffle and refreshments.
