Conwy and Anglesey are the worst counties in North Wales for fly-tipping, according to new figures.

According to Stats Wales Conwy had 1,351 incidents of fly-tipping in 2016/17, while Anglesey had 2,010 incidents reported.

Wrexham county had the lowest number during the same period with 186.

Penalties for fly-tipping range from fixed penalty notices to prosecution.

A spokeswoman for Conwy council said: “There is no excuse for fly-tipping and local residents should not have to tolerate this type of behaviour by a small minority of irresponsible people who break the law.

“Cleaning up fly-tipping costs us all money; it’s dangerous and potentially harmful to health; it spoils our enjoyment of the surroundings and can cause serious pollution of the environment.

“We urge the public to check that the person or company who’s taking away their waste is a registered waste carrier and remember to always ask for a detailed receipt.

“If you see someone fly-tipping, discreetly, try to note the date, time and the place where the tipping is taking place, or has occurred, what the waste is and how much of it there is and a description of any vehicles involved and the registration number.”

Members of the public want to report an incident of fly-tipping they should contact Conwy County Borough Council on (01492) 575337 or report it online at https://erf.reporting.conwy.gov.uk or at Fly-Tipping Action Wales http://www.flytippingactionwales.org/en/
