The annual Montgomery Rally was held at Wern Ddu Farm, Aberhafesp by kind permission of Fraser and Oliver Jones. The organising committee this year included members from Dolfor YFC, Abermule YFC, Tregynon YFC, Aberhafesp YFC and Mochdre and Penstrawed YFC. It was a very well organised and successful event, with over 1200 people attending throughout the day and over 800 members attending the dance in the evening. We would like to thank our main sponsors Powell and Co for supporting the event and helping to ensure its success.

The stock judging competition which was held 19th and 20th May was also a great success. The club winning the Spillers Challenge Shield for highest number of marks in all stock judging competitions this year was San YFC. With Berriew YFC being awarded the Silcock’s Perpetual Challenge Cup for winning the Limousin Cattle judging competition. Thank you to Potters Poultry who kindly sponsored the stock judging competition.

With a full day of competitions from floral art to sheep shearing members from all 18 clubs in the county. Congratulations to Berriew YFC for winning the Perpetual Challenge Shield awarded for gaining the highest total points in all competitions for the second year running, Berriew YFC were also awarded the A W Mason cup for highest points gained in the cookery, craft and floral competitions. The FUW Shield presented to the club gaining the highest points in the agricultural section was this year awarded to Trefeglwys YFC. Winners of the fun section and also awarded with an FUW Shield was Dyffryn Tanat. A number of the competitions from the rally will go forward to the Wales rounds which are held at the Royal Welsh Show in July. The winners of the federation display and going through to represent Montgomeryshire at the Royal Welsh Show was Dolfor YFC. The winners of the JT Hughes trophy for the men’s tug of war competition were Dolfor YFC who as reigning champions will once again be representing Montgomeryshire YFC in Builth Wells. As will Dyffryn Tanat ladies tug of war team as winners of the NFU mutual trophy. We wish all competitors who are going forward to compete in the next rounds the very best of luck.
