THE new Mayor of Knighton is looking forward to the preparation of a Town Plan working in conjunction with Powys County Council.

“We will be working with local transport providers with the aim of getting improved transport services for the town, and to continue generally tidying up the town,” said Cllr. Nick Johns.

“We're also working to secure some Welsh government grants to improve things such as tourist signage and the public loos,” Cllr. Johns told the County Times and Gazette.

He was elected Mayor at the annual meeting of the Town Council

Originally from Flitwick, a small town in Bedfordshire, Cllr. Johns is married and has a daughter. Ellie, who goes to school locally.

He runs a mail order business and this year he started a tools and garage supplies business based in Knighton.

The new Deputy Mayor is Cllr. Michael Harding. Both Mayor and Deputy Mayor are fairly new additions to the council having only become councillors in the past 12 months after the last council elections.

In his speech the retiring mayor Cllr. Bob Andrews said the town council must move forward as the council had not done all it could the past year.
