Reserved matters for 25 houses at land off Roden Grove in Wem will be discussed at North Shropshire Planning on May 29.

The proposal has been the focus of public attention after more than 100 letters of objection were received about concerns with animal habitats and traffic increasing in the area.

Wem Town Council agreed with some of the members of public and in their objection letter said: "The surface water from development will flow directly onto existing properties neighbouring the site which will cause potential flooding problems for these existing properties.

"In addition to this the town council is very concerned about the proposed drainage for this development which is inadequate as the French drains proposed will only last 10 years."

Pauline Dee, Shropshire Councillor for Wem Urban added: "This site has a long history of which you are all aware of from when NSDC refused development because of the drainage problems and the original builder stopped development because of the wet conditions and the problems with drainage and flooding - so why is it deemed to be safe to build on now?"

In the flood risk assessment papers it says applicant, Fletcher Homes has discussed historical flooding with Shropshire Council and the land owners, and there have been no reported incidents of flooding on site.
