PUPILS from Ysgol Pontrobert and Caereinion High School were invited to one of the most famous addresses in the world last week.

Schoolchildren and staff had a special guided tour of Number 10 Downing Street by Glyn Davies, MP for Montgomeryshire, that included sitting around the famous Government Cabinet table for a discussion about what new laws they would like to see.

Ysgol Pontrobert had originally been invited to take part in a St David’s Day reception at Number 10 to perform their Eisteddfod yr Urdd winning Parti Unsain. However, the pupils were left disappointed after the trip had to be cancelled due to the ‘Beast from the East’.

Number 10 therefore invited pupils and staff for a special tour held on the day after finishing their SATs.

Glyn welcomed the school to Westminster and joined them on their tour where they were given privileged access.

“It was great to be able to welcome pupils and teachers from Ysgol Pontrobert to Westminster last week, and to join them on their special tour of Number 10 Downing St,” says Glyn Davies MP.

“The pupils very much enjoyed the tour and the access to the ‘corridors of power’.

“They even held their own Cabinet meeting around the Cabinet table, where they suggested several new laws, including a new law for school to finish an hour earlier every day! I’m not sure that their headteacher Mrs Parry agreed!

“Ysgol Pontrobert is a comparatively small rural school but has consistently achieved excellent Estyn inspection ratings. It is a Welsh medium school, which plays a crucial role within its local community. I probably enjoyed the visit more than the School!
