It’s that time of year again when thoughts turn towards the annual Oswestry Round Challenge.

Over the past two years dozens of fundraisers from the Oswestry area and beyond have come together to walk either the 33 miles or 17 miles courses in aid of Cancer Research UK and Lingen Davies Cancer Fund.

The walk starts and finishes at the Lion Quays Hotel and combines parts of Offa’s Dyke Path and the Montgomery and Llangollen canals to form a circuit around Oswestry.

The Oswestry Round is described by its creator, Dave Andrews, as being a “delightful route”.

He added: "“The challenge is a great way to meet people, get some exercise and raise money for two cancer charities at the same time.

"It’s always a fun day and this year we are hoping for some sunshine!”

The challenge is based on the The Oswestry Round which was written by Dave and his wife Jane Trudgill as a thank you for the care and treatment he received in the Lingen Davies Centre in 2014.

During the past two years the ORC and the book together have raised over £29,000.

This year’s challenge will be held on Saturday, June 9 and walkers can attempt the whole route of 33 miles or just half of it and stop at Llanymynech and get a lift back to the start.

The organisers are hoping to raise in excess of £20,000 for the two chosen cancer charities.
