A CAEREINION High School pupil’s story has been shortlisted in the BBC Radio 2 500 Words competition.

Lizzie Jones from Llanfair Caereinion’s story called ‘Forbidden Love’ has made the final 5,000.

This month, 12-year-old Lizzie will find out whether her story has been shortlisted again into the top 50.

Every year seven pupil at the school entered the competition, which had more than 140,000 entries in total.

If Lizzie is successful, her story will be judged by Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall at the finals at Hampton Court.

The finals will be broadcast live on BBC Radio 2’s ‘Chris Evans Breakfast Show’ on Friday, June 8, with celebrities reading out the winning entries.

The six winners will get a ride around the Hampton Court Palace grounds in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and have tea on board The Queen’s rowbarge ‘Gloriana’. They will also win books for themselves and their schools.

Caereinion High School head teacher Iona Davies said: “I’m very proud of Lizzie’s success. It’s an amazing achievement to reach the last 5,000.”
