A LUXURY food producer based in Caersws is celebrating after receiving a prestigious award at the 13th World’s Original Marmalade Awards.

Pantri Swswen scooped a Gold award for its Ruby Grapefruit & Welsh Honey Marmalade which impressed judges with its appearance, colour, consistency, aroma and flavour.

The Artisan judges for 2018 were a prestigious panel of food industry experts, including Fortnum & Mason head buyer Brigette Hardy, Telegraph food writer Xanthe Clay and longstanding awards patron Dan Lepard, food writer.

Owner Lizzie Jones said she was delighted to win the award: “I’ve been making preserves and cakes since 2012.

“But I always enjoyed making preserves; marmalade, chutneys, curds, pickles, conserves, jellies and jams when I was growing up in the 1980s. I try to source everything locally.

“I want people to taste Wales not just buy something made in Wales.

According to Lizzie, the creative process of coming up with the different types of marmalade and preserve is finding ingredients that she likes and then going on by trial and error to find other flavours to provide balance.

“It’s knowledge and experience of food and finding what goes together,” said Lizzie..

On the award, mother of two Lizzie, who grew up near Churchstoke, added: “This is a golden award for us in more ways than one, we are so pleased to have won our third consecutive annual award.”
