A LLANSILIN couple are set to see their glamping and event venue business hit the national spotlight – as the ITV cameras dropped in to chart their progress for a new TV series.

Katrina and Steve Boydon hosted Apprentice star and self-styled business guru Baroness Karren Brady at their glamping site, Barnutopia, set back in the border countryside near Llansilin.

The ITV series “Give it a Year”, fronted by Baroness Brady, will meet a different entrepreneur embarking on a business venture, before flashing forward to a year later to see how they fared.

Barnutopia has welcomed glamping guests since June 2015, but in 2016, owners Katrina and Steve Boydon decided to expand the business as a wedding and event venue. Baroness Brady and the Give It A Year production team followed developments for a year up to the first wedding ceremony held in the newly licensed long barn.

“It went really well and it was a terrific experience,” said owner Katrina Boydon.

“We spoke to the directors of the show before we came on and they told us it would be a celebration of British businesses.

“Karren was fronting the show and she came down two or three times right up to the filming of our first wedding. She was extremely supportive and positive, and sharp in the intelligent sense of the word – she knew the right questions to ask about the business.”

Some of the more outlandish stories featured on the show include an inventor selling self-heating mugs for £1,000 and a lady who claimed she was receiving business advice from her deceased grandfather, much to the amusement of 49-year-old West Ham vice-chairman Brady.

“I gave them all advice at the outset, but not all of them took it. I wanted them all to do well but some have better ideas than others,” she said. “I like that you get to see the year-later reveal in an instant because, with a lot of shows like Dragons’ Den, you see whether they get their money, but you don’t see if they make it a success.”

The episode featuring Barnutopia will air at 8pm on Monday, May 14.
