Powys is bracing itself for more hazardous conditions as temperatures plummet well below freezing.
It's set to be a snowy St David's Day across the country since the 'Beast from the East' landed.
Heavy and frequent snow showers are expected overnight on Thursday after an 'amber' weather warning was put in place for most of Wales.
Arctic conditions will stay until Friday with temperatures dipping to -8 degree Celsius overnight.
Some parts of Powys could see 10cm to 50cm of snow especially in the hills.
Dyfed-Powys Police said: "Please drive in accordance with the weather conditions and road conditions - please do not take unnecessary risks."
Lake Vyrnwy was the coldest place in Wales on Tuesday night with temperatures diving to -6.9 degree Celsius. Due to the wind chill, it felt more like -13 degrees Celsius.
The cold snap is caused by bitter easterly winds from Scandinavia and Russia crossing the UK. It not only brings cold air but a 'significant' wind chill making it feel a lot colder than thermometers show, according to the Met Office.
Powys County Council gritters will cover all primary routes in the county on Thursday from 4pm and again on Friday from 4am.
Severn Trent has reported a huge increase in customers calling about frozen pipes. The water company is advising homeowners to take action now, as the cold could and has led to pipes inside the home being damaged, causing flooding and sometimes costly damage. Severn Trent's tips is to wrap all pipework, fittings and storage tanks in unheated areas of your home (such as lofts, roofs, outbuildings and garages) with insulation.
On Tuesday, Ysgol Meifod and Ysgol Rhiw Bechan in Tregynon closed for the afternoon due to adverse weather conditions. Pupils who travel to Llanfyllin High School by bus were sent home in the afternoon but the school remained open. To keep track of school closures, go to the Powys County Council website, listen to BBC Radio Wales or Radio Cymru, or keep an eye on text messages sent by the schools.
