TOM Stedman is a Llanidloes-based guitarist who specialises in percussive finger-style playing which has been popularised by such musical pioneers as Andy McKee and Tommy Emmanuel, and who has now developed his own unique take on this rapidly evolving genre.

Tom started playing at the age of 12 and quickly discovered a passion for a variety of musical genres, particularly diverse forms of heavy metal and rock, which eventually led him to experiment with various stylistic fusions incorporating funk, rock, jazz, Spanish and classical elements.

His early musical career was based around the metal genre, and he was lead guitarist in heavy metal band Primal State for over ten years throughout several incarnations of the band.

One of Tom’s most recent accolades was first prize in the local 2012 Three Counties Acoustic Competition, and he was invited to participate in the judging for the subsequent competition which is expected to be held in the summer of 2013.

Tom’s most recent commercial release was the four-track solo EP Little Blue Dot, which was written, recorded and produced in 2012, and released shortly before Christmas. The EP generated a storm of positive feedback, with Oswestry Live Magazine labelling it ‘thoroughly calming chill-out music’ and praising Tom’s command of ‘impeccable finger-style playing to create simultaneously engrossing and relaxing musical landscapes’.

Currently Tom is recording his first full album as a solo artist and planning a UK-wide tour which is expected to run in the latter part of 2013. He is also working as a producer in a professional recording studio for Oswestry-based company Fusion Arts Oswestry and working as a guitar tutor conducting private lessons and workshops in the Shropshire area.
