Henshalls Shrop Lge Division One

Alberbury 239 all out lost to

Condover 240 for 8 by 2 wickets

A MARK Jones batting masterclass was not enough to prevent Alberbury slipping to a two wicket defeat at Condover in division one of the Henshalls Shropshire League.

Jones produced his best innings in 12 years with a superb knock of 132, to guide Alberbury to 239 to defend.

Alberbury endured a troubled opening with Charles Bourne and Dan Leach removed for ducks before Matt Farr completed his 3-34 with the wicket of Mike Crawshaw (2) to leave the visitors 19-3.

However Jones was joined by Andrew Wynne in a 107 fourth wicket stand to revive the Alberbury innings.

Wynne included seven fours in his supporting knock of 38 before being caught by Tom Reynolds off Jon Mansell to leave Alberbury on 126-5.

Jones looked to form another middle order partnership but Mansell (2-35) was joined by Charlie Rogers (3-54) in ensuring regular wickets for Condover.

Jones included 22 fours and a solitary six before being caught by Ewan Elliott off Robbie Barker (2-36) to leave Alberbury defending 239.

Opener Reynolds was caught for a duck by Andrew Wynne off Myles Thomas (1-41) as Alberbury celebrated early success in reply.

Opener Dougie Farr was joined by Charlie Rogers in settling the hosts, forming a 31 run second wicket stand before the latter was caught and bowled by Sam Morris (1-45) for 16.

Farr was joined by Andy Mottram in adding 30 runs for the third wicket before his own departure, caught for 33 by Bourne off Andy Holloway.

Condover’s middle order continued to work the scoreboard as Mottram (29), Elliott (29) and Simon Dodds (31) offered defiance to Oliver Corbett (1-45), Holloway (2-22) and Crawshaw (1-29).

Sam Morris ran out Jon Mansell (22) to leave Condover on 197-7 but Alberbury could not dislodge Matthew Farr (55no) who guided the hosts to 240-8 and glory.
