RUSSELL George increased the Conservative majority as he held on to his seat and will serve for a second term as AM. Looking to hold onto the seat he has held since 2011, Mr George was overjoyed to be given the backing of constituents, earning 9,872 votes, a majority over the Lib Dem's Jane Dodds, who had 6,536 votes. Speaking after his second successive success, Mr George said: "It has been fantastic to represent Montgomeryshire for the last five years and I am delighted to have been re-elected to represent the county for another five years ahead." Mr George now believes the Montgomeryshire seat is a safe Conservative one. "It gives me confidence to know the people of Montgomeryshire have put faith and trust in me. "If you went back a decade it was a strong liberal seat, that changed to Lib Dem/Conservative marginal. "Now it is a fairly safe Conservative seat which pleases me as it allows my close working relationship with MP Glyn Davies to continue." Mrs Dodds, who also missed out in the general election, vowed the Lib Dem's will keep fighting. She said: "We are not going away, the easiest thing in the world would be to quit when we lost again, but we are not quitting. "We will be back here and fighting the next election exactly as we have before." Des Parkinson, the first UKIP candidate to sit in Montgomeryshire finished third with 2,458 votes. "UKIP didn't have a candidate in the last election and we have come third."Across Wales UKIP are on the March and we will be in the Senedd. FULL RESULTRussell George - Conservative 9,872Jane Dodds - Liberal Democrats 6,536Des Parkinson - UKIP 2,458Aled Morgan Hughes - Plaid 2,410Martyn Singleton - Labour 1,389Richard Chaloner - Green Party 1,389 Votes - 23,742Rejected Votes - 142
