DYLAN McPhee has confirmed his intention to step down as manager of Rhayader Town at the end of the season.

McPhee (right) will bring to an end a glittering nine year tenure in the club’s final game of the season with the Red Kites relegation from the Huws Gray Alliance confirmed.

“I’d like to thank everyone at the club and wish Rhayader Town all the best for the future,” said McPhee.

McPhee played a key role in re-forming the club in 2007 having previously represented its predecessor in the Welsh Premier until its implosion in 2006.

McPhee oversaw the club’s rise through the Mid Wales League to the Huws Gray Alliance in 2010 and despite relegation the following season, masterminded their return in 2012.

McPhee hopes the club would once again return to the second tier of Welsh football and had the potential to compete at such a level.

However he McPhee wondered whether the desire to mount a return remained.

“The Alliance is a tough league, there are some top clubs and long distances to travel,” said McPhee. “Over this season it became clear to me that not everyone was pulling in the same direction.

“It is a great shame as for as good as the Mid Wales League is I am sure a lot of our lads will miss the Alliance next season.”

McPhee insisted the club had great potential but would have to decide on its objectives and priorities.

“The club is not in turmoil,” said McPhee. “But it now needs to spend the summer addressing some of the problems which have undermined the club over the past few years.”
