GLYN Davies made history when he retained the Montgomeryshire seat for the Conservative party for the first time ever. Traditionally the seat has been a Liberal Democrat hold but popular local lad Mr Davies gained 45 per cent of the vote to see off his Lib Dem counterpart Jane Dodds by 5,325 votes. UKIP party candidate Des Parkinson was delighted to finish in third place with 3,769 votes- three times as many as his party got at the last election. There was a slightly lower turnout than 2010 with 33,813 people taking to the ballot boxes a drop in 0.6 per cent. The night belonged to Mr Davies who was delighted to become the first ever Conservative politician to retain the Montgomeryshire seat. He said: "It's been an emotional victory for me as I always have been and always will be proud to represent my own area. "To get an increased majority is a huge vote of confidence for me and I'm just delighted, I have done everything I can and I am glad that I haven’t let the constituents down. It is clear that I always have the interests of the job in my heart.” Two of the issues Mr Davies vowed to tackle on his election were his opposition to the Mid Wales Wind Farm Inquiry and his bid to keep A&E services in Shrewsbury. Full results Glyn Davies- Conservative- 15,204Jane Dodds- Liberal Democrats- 9,879Des Parkinson- UKIP- 3,769Martyn Singleton- Labour- 1,900Ann Griffith- Plaid Cymru- 1,745Richard Chaloner- Green Party- 1,260
