TWO years after it closed its doors as a health care centre, Builth Wells Cottage Hospital has been demolished.
The hospital was replaced by Glan Irfon Health Centre, though services were much more streamlined.
The loss of the services and now the iconic building itself has been met with widespread disapproval from Builth Wells residents.
Town Mayor, Councillor Adrian Jones, is deeply saddened by the loss.
He said: “I think the scene in the town is very bad at the moment as there is now no maternity ward or care ward, so people can no longer be born or die in Builth Wells. It’s a real loss and a battle lost.
“I know a lot of people will not go and see the site, it’s just too sad. I have not met one person who is pleased about it.
“The town council were not happy about it, but there was nothing we could do. It’s very devastating.”
