A COMMUNITY volunteer has ‘braved the shave’ to raise money for MacMillan Cancer Support.

Sharon Henshall, 45, from Ruthin, gives up her spare time to help as a Beaver Leader with the towns’ young scouts.

And now she has gone the extra mile to raise money for the cancer charity by shaving her head in solidarity with those who suffer from the disease.

The brave the shave challenge has seen thousands of people across the UK shave their heads to mimic the symptoms of cancer treatment.

It has raised over a million pounds for the cancer charity which supports patients fighting the illness.

Sharon, who has raised £600 with her gesture is not looking for any praise.

She said: “When people heard about what I was going to do they said that I was brave but I am not the brave one at all, it’s the people who have to fight cancer who are the brave ones.”

Apart from it being a good cause, Sharon had good personal reasons for wanting to do something for the cause, having lost her step father to the disease ten years ago.

And she was thankful to the people who have helped her with the challenge.

“I have never done anything like this before but I hope to do more in the future. I would like to thank all of the people who have supported me and Tommy’s in Ruthin where I had the hair cut.”
