Revd W.O Meredith Powell

Revd. W.O. Meredith Powell Nantlais, Llanidloes passed away very suddenly on November 12th. 2019, aged 82 years. He had been the faithful Minister in Llanidloes Baptist Church and Rhydfelin Chapel for 53 years, having moved here from Oxford just three days before the Aberfan disaster in 1966. He held office in various organisations in the Community and further afield and was Chaplain in Llanidloes War Memorial Hospital for a very long time. In fact he had visited patients there only six hours before he died. On November 30th 2019 his funeral was held in Llanidloes Baptist Church where a very large congregation gathered for a Service of Remembrance and Thanksgiving for the life of Meredith. Those who took the main part in this service were his close family members. It was conducted by William, Naomi gave a tribute to their father, Barbara read the 23rd Psalm and four of his grandchildren formed an instrumental group, playing some beautiful Irish music. Rev. Rachel Bending conducted a short family service in the Church on the previous evening. Thanks to all of them and to the organist, Mrs. Coris Evans, Mr. Ken Price, who led the congregational singing and to the members of the Wesley Singers and Cor Llanwnog, who sang the lovely words of the hymn "Sweet is the work, my God, my King". Barbara and the family would like to express their sincere thanks to everyone for their great kindness, support and prayers and for the numerous cards, letters, phone calls and visits received. Thanks also to the bearers:-Anthony Williams, Bill Bagley, Ron Jones, Roger Owen, Alec Davies, and Stephen Evans; the ushers:- Ken Davies, Emrys Owen, Gordon Evans and Andrew Davies and to everyone else who helped in any way. Thanks also to the paramedics, to Mr. Ian Hughes of M.Jones & Son for his compassionate care and kindness when making the funeral arrangements and to Catherine and Lisa for the lovely refreshments. Lastly, thanks and appreciation for the generous donations, totalling £4,270, given in memory of Meredith to Llanidloes Baptist Church, the British Heart Foundation and Cancer Research.
