BUILTH Wells battled to a thrilling 23-19 win at home to Morriston in Admiral Division One West Central on Saturday.

The Bulls returned following a lengthy festive break and found themselves under the cosh early on with the visitors kicking well and putting the home side under pressure.

Morriston outside half Corey Jones kicked his side into a 9-0 lead after 20 minute before Builth narrowed the deficit before the interval with Jack Griffiths adding two penalties of his own to make the scores 9-6 at the interval.

Morriston scored the opening try of the game early in the second-half before the Bulls replied with a penalty from Griffiths.

Builth reduced the deficit with a try from Ryan Hughes who darted over from the tail of a driving maul.

Morriston collapsed under mounting pressure and were reduced to 13 men as Builth took advantage by using their unstoppable driving maul to full effect crossing the whitewash again with Ben Pugh the scorer.

Morriston rallied and led with another penalty from Jones but Builth were not to be denied and a last gasp try from Hugh Price jaw the Powys side snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

COBRA battled in vain in a 33-19 defeat at Admiral League One North leaders Nant Conwy whose victory was built on its dominant pack.

The Meifod side handed the hosts a fright with tries from Steve Isaac, Iwan Vaughan and a fine try from Rob Irving giving them a slender interval lead before Nant Conwy stormed back to seal glory in the final 10 minutes.

Welshpool returned from Bro Ffestiniog 22-12 winners in division two north with Tom Davies starring with two tries.

Rhys Williams and Max Cadwallader also crossed the whitewash with Williams landing two conversions.

Newtown also maintained their fine season with a 24-10 win at home to Newtown with Glenn Pybus starring two tries with Oli Beddoes converting one and adding four penalties.

Machynlleth boosted their third division title bid with an 18-10 win at Bro Gwernant.

Gerwyn Coleman and Kameron Simmons-Sandy each crossed for tries with Iwan Powl-Jones converting one and kicking two penalties.

COBRA IIs edged a 24-22 win at Bala IIs with tries from Rhodri Wigley and Wyn Williams while Will Worthington converted one and kicked four penalties.

Trefyclawdd celebrated a 20-11 derby win at Llandrindod Wells in division five east central.

Adam Powell kicked Llandrindod ahead before the Knighton side replied with a try from Will Deakins, converted by Lloyd Parks.

Powell and Parks exchanged penalties as the visitors edged a slender interval lead which was extended after the break with Parks converting a try from Evan Lee.

Llandrindod remained in contention thanks to a try from Mark Davies but Trefyclawdd weathered the storm with a Parks kick his side to victory.
