MAX Evans once again starred as Powys athletes impressed at the 2023 WSAA Track & Field Championships in Cardiff last week.
The Maldwyn Harriers Athletics Club ace followed up his success from the previous week’s double medal haul at the Welsh Senior and U15s Championships with another double, winning the under 15s 100m in a time of 11.40 and the 200m in a time of 23.19.
Powys athletes donned the colours of their counties as emerging athletic talent from Afan Nedd Tawe, Cardiff & the Vale of Glamorgan, Dyfed, Eryri, Glamorgan Valleys, North East Wales and South East Wales went head to head.

Brecon’s Tristan Cumberland also claimed gold with his time of 4.10.28 sealing top spot in the under 20s 1,500m with club-mate Ruby Herdman ending second inthe women's U17s 1,500m with a time of 5.30.60 for silver.
Aled Breeze of Newtown achieved a personal best of 4.13.82 to claim second in the same event while Maldwyn Harrier clubmate Maddie Griffiths was third in the women’s under 20’s 1,500 in 5.08.61.

Welshpool’s Callum Morgan sealed third and a bronze medal with his season’s best of 10.15.23 in the men’s under 20’s 3,000m.
Cari Jones just missed out on a medal in the women’s under 17s 300m with a personal best if 44.23 enough for fourth.
The youngster went home with a medal with her shot put throw of 10.09 earning a silver in the women’s under 17s event.
Maldwyn Harrier Maddie Hughes also achieved a PB with a time of 4.50.21 in the women’s under 15s 1,500m sealing fourth.
Powys athletes also tasted medal success in the field with Luca Hughes’ effort of 1.60m sealing second in the under 15’s boys high jump while
Manon Ellis-Jones was third in the women’s under 17’s triple jump with an effort of 9.40m.
Eifion Holder also toasted third place with a season’s best 23.90m in the men’s under 15s discus while Cai Van Lill ended second with a personal best of 41.41m in the men’s under 17’s javelin.
Brecon’s Olivia Ellis completed Powys’ medal haul with a season’s best 25.11m enough for third spot in the women’s under 17s javelin event.
Powys also claimed a team bronze in the under 15s women’s relay to complete Powys’ impressive medal haul.
Powys continues to shine at a national level despite lacking the facilities, infrastructure and investment in other parts of Wales.
