MALDWYN Harriers Athletics Club stars were once again among the medals at last weekend's Welsh Mountain Running Champs at Y Fron in north Wales.

The Newtown club has a well-earned reputation as one of the top clubs in Wales and a breeding ground of emerging track and child talent.

The current crop look set to be the best yet with several of the Harriers on show last weekend.

Mackenzie McCourt starred and won the women's under 17s race in a time of 31:57 while clubmate Maddie Hughes was third in 36:11.

Maddie Hughes completed the Powys club's medal count with a bronze in the women's under 20s race in a time of 45:45.

The race was a trial for the British & Irish Mountain Running Championships in Peebles, Scotland in September with all four Harriers hoping for the automatic selection spots.
