A PAVING company is supporting the fight against breast cancer - by revealing two bright pink pieces of heavy machinery that have been added to its fleet.

Claire and David Francis, directors of MP Paver Hire & Surfacing Ltd in Penrhos by Llanymynech, added a new road paver and road roller with the unique colours to reflect the pink ribbon, a universal symbol of breast cancer awareness dating back to the early 1990s.

As well as the colour scheme, the company also pledged to donate 10 percent of the cost of the machines to cancer charities like Lingen Davies and Severn Hospice over the next 12 months, which will be roughly £10,000.

Claire Francis said: “In 2021 I was diagnosed with stage 3 invasive breast cancer. There was a history of breast cancer in my family, so I didn't hesitate to get checked when I thought there was a problem, but many ladies and men don't.

“I told every stage of my story, operations, treatments on my Facebook page as I thought I could help someone by being honest and truthful but remaining very positive throughout. I had a double mastectomy, hysterectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

County Times: A vehicle of MP Pavers, painted in pink to support breast cancer awareness.

“My Husband David and myself felt we could do something positive by raising awareness, so when ordering a new road paver and road roller from Wirtgen Ltd we asked if they could be sprayed in breast cancer pink, they loved the idea and actually did that free of charge.

“On the one side we have 'ladies check your breast' on the other we have 'Gentlemen check your chests' plus breast cancer statistics.

“We have also stated on the machines that we will be giving 10 per cent of the cost of the machines to breast cancer care, over the next 12 months.

“I think it’s important that they raise awareness, but their colour alone is already a big hit and provides a lot of fun.

"Just today we were at a job in Cheshire and people were taking pictures of the machines at work.”
