Powell, who had denied any wrongdoing, was charged with two counts, both related to alleged incidents on November 23, 2022.

He was accused of using prohibited instruments, namely a gaff and light or lamp, "for the purpose of taking or killing" salmon and migratory trout along the River Dernol, which is situated between Llangurig and Rhayader, without a fishing licence, but was cleared after a trial.

Powell was also found not guilty of dangerously driving a Volkswagen Amarok pick-up truck along the Dernol Road between Llangurig and Rhayader on the same day.
