THREE people were taken to hospital after suffering injuries in a crash that closed a main Powys road for more than 14 hours over the weekend.

Dyfed-Powys Police officers are appealing for witnesses following the collision, which happened on the A470 between Newbridge-on-Wye and Rhayader at around 3.10am on Sunday, November 19.

The crash happened at a section of the road at Doldowlod, where the A470 meets the A4081, and involved a white Mercedes Sprinter van and a white Skoda Citigo.

A police spokesperson said: “Officers attended alongside the ambulance and the fire and rescue services. Two people suffered injuries and were taken to hospital.

“Anyone who may have been travelling along the A470 at the relevant time or anyone with information that could help officers with their investigation is asked to report it to Dyfed Powys Police, either online at https://bit.ly/DPPContactOnline, email 101@dyfed-powys.police.uk or call 101.”

A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service (MWWFRS) spokesperson said that at 3.22am on Sunday, November 19, the Llandrindod Wells, Rhayader and Builth Wells crews were called to an incident along the A470.

“Crews responded to a road traffic collision involving one private motor vehicle and one large goods vehicle with two casualties," the fire service said.

“The casualties were put in the care of the Welsh Ambulance Service personnel who were also in attendance. Crews left the scene at 6am.”

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson said: “We were called at 3.24am yesterday (Sunday) to reports of a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A470 near Newbridge-on-Wye.

“We sent four emergency ambulances to the scene, where crews were supported by an operations manager and a helicopter.

“Advanced critical care support was delivered by the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service in a Wales Air Ambulance charity car. Three people were taken to hospital.”

Authorities had warned road users that the A470 would be closed for some time. Traffic Wales announced that the road reopened at around 5.50pm on Sunday.
