THE Heart of Wales’ brave Wynne Lloyd Cup run came to an end with a 10-8 semi-final defeat against Pembrokeshire in Aberdare on Monday night.

A try from Josh Pritchard and penalty from Andrew Barrell was not enough as the district cup dreams ended for Heart of Wales.

Coach Richard Lawrence said: “I am proud of every player and all four clubs who supported the district side should be proud as well.

“We have some real rugby talent in Mid Wales which seems to be more often than not overlooked by Welsh Rugby Union scouts.”

The team comprised of the cream of the talent from Builth Wells, Brecon, Gwernyfed and Mountain Ash.

“This team as has thrilled everyone with their creativity and passion for the game and a never say die attitude,” said Lawrence.

The Heart of Wales side trailed 10-3 before Pritchard went over to set-up a thrilling finale.

However Pembrokeshire just held out to clinch their place in the final.

Lawrence said: “These lads have played some wonderful attacking rugby on their journey to semis and been a real joy to watch.

“Attacking coach Chris Offa must take a lot of credit for this and empowering the boys to play in this style.”

Many of the Builth contingent will now dust themselves down with the Bulls in the later rounds of the Blues Cup.
