RICHARD Lawrence has backed his Mid District side to keep their Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) District Cup dreams alive on Monday.

Lawrence and the rest of the Mid District coaching staff will lead a talented squad of Mid and South players to Ammanford to take on Pembrokeshire on Monday evening.

The reward for both sides is a place in the final.

Lawrence insisted the Mid District squad would be ready for the biggest challenge of their fledgling careers.

“After a long lay off from taking part in the District Cup the players have kept up the momentum in training sessions and are more determined than ever to prove themselves.”

Lawrence warned Pembrokeshire would be contenders and praised the West Wales side.

“Pembrokeshire have the ability to play expansive, or if needed to able to tighten the game up,” said Lawrence. “This team will be extremely difficult to beat.”

The Mid District squad was formed this season with the best young talent from Builth Wells, Gwernyfed and Brecon in its ranks.

Lawrence added: “Team morale and team spirit is key in this bunch of players and hopefully we can count on a large and vocal following on Monday.

“It would be fantastic to get as many people from Mid and South Powys down to Ammanford and I know the lads will certainly appreciate all the support they can get.”

Lawrence refused to look ahead to the final and potential date against Ceredigion with all eyes on Pembrokeshire.

Lawrence said: “We expect Pembrokeshire to play a fast paced game so it should create a great spectacle for everyone.

“The players have shown themselves up to the challenge this season and we make the trip with no fear.”
