COBRA hosted a touring club from the Netherlands during the Easter break.

The Meifod club was delighted to host Wagingen Rugby Club with both senior men and women’s fixtures being contested.

The arrival of the Dutch club represents the latest chapter of a blossoming friendship between the North Wales club and their cousins from the continent.

It all began with Iwan Vaughan, a long serving member of the men’s squad, travelling with a member of the Waginen squad with the Nuffield Farming Scholarships Trust.

Vaughan lodged with the Waginen player and trained with the club and remained in contact with his friends from the lowlands.

Upon the Dutch club looking to tour the United Kingdom a trip to Meifod was soon arranged with both men and women’s sides arriving during the Easter weekend

The tourists also visited Bristol and Whitchurch before heading to Wales.

On Sunday the men and women of both clubs came together to contest small sided games before departing for Holland.

A club spokesman said: “It was a great weekend and thanks to Waginen for visiting.

“Waginen were a very interesting and entertaining bunch and of course welcome to return to COBRA anytime.”

This weekend sees COBRA return to league action with the visit of North Wales League Two leaders Dinbych on Saturday.

Dinbych arrive licking their wounds after their 14 match unbeaten league record was claimed by COBRA in the reverse fixture last week.

Meanwhile COBRA have also been crowned Game On North Wales Women’s League champions with a fixture to spare.

The club is expected to receive the silverware, marking the end of a remarkable debut campaign, at the end of the season.
