COBRA clinched the Game On North Wales Women’s League title with a 31-10 derby victory at Welshpool on Sunday.

The Meifod side began brightly and were rewarded with a try from Grace Hill, converted by Ffion Williams.

However the hosts proved much improved from the side which crashed 64-0 in the early season reverse fixture and dominated the first-half, culminating in an unconverted try from Lucia Alexander.

COBRA weathered the storm with a resilient defensive line and gave themselves a lift just before the break with Jessica Andrews crossing for a try with Williams converting.

COBRA enjoyed greater possession after the break with the outstanding Williams leaving her stamp of the game with three tries and one further conversion.

To their credit the home side continued to play a passing game and were rewarded at the death with a try from Grace Johns.

However it was too late to prevent COBRA being crowned inaugural Game On North Wales Women’s League champions with a game to spare.

The Meifod side will look to end the campaign unbeaten while both sides will be in action in the Welsh Women’s Super Cup next month.

Welshpool host Nantymoel on April 15 while COBRA enter the competition in the quarter-finals on April 29.

Meanwhile this Sunday the RGC Women’s side travel to the Ospreys in a league decider.

Welshpool star Grace Johns will look to make the squad along with the COBRA trio of Libby Jones, Grace Hill and Ffion Williams.

However COBRA’s Siony Rudd has been ruled out of contention with a knee injury.
