Builth Wells 16 Brynamman 12

BUILTH Wells avenged two early season defeats with a battling victory over division two west central high flyers Brynamman.

A large and vociferous home crowd got behind the Bulls from the first whistle but Brynamman forged ahead with a penalty from Dafydd Evans.

The Bulls pack started to pile the pressure on the Brynamman scrum and were rewarded with three points from the boot of Harry Jenkinson.

Builth got their noses in front by half-time with a strong driving maul from the forwards making more than 20 yards before being illegally pulled down to earn a penalty try.

It got even better for the Bulls after the break with a Jenkinson penalty offering the home side some breathing space as the Groe faithful scented an upset on the cards.

Brynamman rallied and Builth’s indisciplined allowed the visitors back in the game with a succession of penalties from Evans reducing the deficit to a point.

However Builth regained their composure and settled down after a well worked move resulted in a penalty which Jenkinson duly converted.

Brynamman laid siege for the remainder of the game but a dogged defence ensured Builth held out to complete a battling and deserved victory.

Builth now travel to Cwmavon and Cwmgors in successive away days before hosting Ystradgynlais in their next home fixture on April 14.

Coach Ben Duggan said: “It was a battling victory and gives us confidence.”
