NEWTOWN booked their place in the final of the North Wales Intermediate Plate with a sensational 38-12 victory at Abergele.

Town made the trip as favourites against a side which currently props up the second division of the North Wales League.

Town enjoyed the advantage of the wind in the first-half and pulled away with tries from Twm Jones, Will Whittington and Tom Andrews.

Dylan Leach added two conversions before the hosts reduced the arrears with an unconverted try just before the break.

Despite facing the elements after the break the Mid Wales side continued to take to the game to their hosts.

Jones crossed for his second try of the day before Whittington crossed the whitewash to settle the outcome with Leach adding the extras.

To their credit the hosts hit back with a converted try of their own but Town had the final say with the try of the game.

Man of the match Ben Squibb broke from his own 22 metre line before releasing Josh Cotton to dart over for a try which sparked wild celebrations.

Meanwhile Llanidloes and COBRA scrapped out a 7-7 draw in division two of the North Wales League.

The match was contested in freezing conditions which both sides struggled to adapt throughout the first-half.

The Meifod visitors led with a penalty try awarded early in the second-half after the home side were ruled to have offended at the scrum.

Llanidloes soon hit back with replacement Arwel Lloyd crashing over following a series of forward dives with the extras added by Adam Price.

Indiscipline in the COBRA ranks saw the visitors reduced to 13 men late on.

Llanidloes looked to capitalise on their numerical advantage but a resolute COBRA defence dug in to ensure a share of the spoils as the match ended even.
