NEWTOWN produced their best performance of the second division season with to prevail 20-9 victors at Llangollen.

Despite fielding a depleted squad the Mid Wales side led at the break courtesy of superb breakaway try from Junior Dean with Dylan Leach adding a conversion to his earlier penalty.

Newtown’s dominant scrum came to the fore after the break and culminated in a pushover try from Jack Benyon-Thomas before Jodeci Dean completed the scoring with a try.

Meanwhile Llanidloes stormed to a comprehensive 31-5 win at home to Wrexham.

A dogged defensive display provided the foundations for Llanidloes’ victory with tries from Paul Jehu, Rhys Owen, Richard Evans and a penalty try all converted by Adam Price who completed his impressive kicking performance with a penalty.

COBRA endured a day to forget in a 25-5 defeat at home to Shotton Steel.

Shaun Mydd starred with three tries for the Steelmen with Steve Ellson converting two while completing his haul with a brace of penalties.

COBRA reduced the arrears with a consolation try from Richard Jones in the last act of the game but it was not enough to prevent the Meifod side tasting defeat.

Meanwhile a solitary try from Kyle Rowlands was enough for Newtown to prevail 5-3 winners at home to Mold and progress to the next round of the North Wales Youth Bowl.

Mold edged ahead at the break with a penalty but Newtown’s fast paced and accurate passing game yielded reward after the interval with hooker Rowlands crossing for the decisive score.

Elsewhere Tom Lydford crossed for two tries as COBRA prevailed 28-5 winners over Ruthin in the North Wales Youth Plate.

Lee Hughes and Rhys Price also crossed, with Cian Roberts converting all.
