Builth wells 27 cwmavon 10

BUILTH marked their return to action following a month lay-off with a battling home win over Cwmavon to climb the Swalec Division Two West Central table.

The visitors belied their lowly league position and led with an early penalty following an error strewn opening from the Bulls.

Builth eventually woke up and got back in the game with a long Harry Jenkinson penalty.

Builth led when a series of forward carries culminated in winger Paul Griffiths going over in the corner with Jenkinson adding the conversion.

In contrast it was all one way traffic after the break as the Bulls did all the running.

The home pack started to dominate the tight quarters and after a strong scrum wing Joe Barrett squeezed over in the corner.

It soon got even better for Builth with good interplay by backs and forwards leading to Barrett going over for his second of the day.

Builth indiscipline gave Cwmavon an opportunity to get back in the game and they took a well taken try to make the score 22-10.

However Builth were not to be denied and wrapped up the bonus point with 10 minutes to go with skipper Rhys Davies getting over the whitewash after a strong 20 metre driving maul from the forwards.

The Bulls face the visit of league leaders Nantyffyllon on March 3 before a trip to Nantymoel and visit of Brynamman on March 24 with the month ending with the reverse fixture against Cwmavon.

“This result will mean we can go into the Nantyffyllon game with some confidence,” said coach Ben Duggan.
